Welcome to a the “King of the Hill” Series
TBD, it could be you! Read “How to compete” below.
Postponed until after Worlds
King of the Hill is a bi-weekly competition series open to everyone! That’s right, each night of King of the Hill will feature new competitors who applied for the chance at becoming the King. Two challengers will play a best of three series, with the winner going on to face the current King in another best of three. The winner of the King match will earn the title of King of the Hill and the right to face future challengers and defend their title!
King of the Hill features a unique deck elimination system that requires competitors to be skilled with not just one, but three different decks. Before the competition each competitor will submit three deck-lists. They must be ‘standard format’ legal lists and must not feature any repeat unique characters (we’re being a little lenient on this during pre-season). Note that the current King must play with the same lists as the previous week, giving their competitors a slight edge with the chance to bring lists specifically tailored to defeat the King. Before each match, the players will simultaneously choose and ban one of their opponents lists. Then they will simultaneously choose their first deck to play. When a player loses they must switch decks. When a player defeats all of an opponents decks, they are victorious.
All matches will be live streamed on our twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/thedestinycouncil
Each match will be commentated by one or more of the Council. Afterwords the videos will be posted to our casual YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzzY9vfW8Mrw56Tac-PADzA
Matches will be held bi-weekly (at least to begin), and hopefully on Tuesday nights at 7 P.M. Eastern. However, the current King has the right to request a different night to fit their schedules if they can’t make Tuesday work.
The King’s winning lists will be posted to the ‘King of the Hill’ swdestinydb.com profile.
We hope to gauge interest in the series with several “pre-season” matches. When we begin our first official season we will be announcing the seasonal rewards both for the ‘Final King’ and the ‘Longest time on the Throne’.
For the pre-season we will be offering 1 training session for winning a series. Roughly 1 and a half hours of one-on-one with a member of the Council to help you improve your game!
How to compete
Submit your application through our ‘Contact-Us‘ page selecting the ‘King of the Hill’ category. You may submit applications for yourself, but you can also vote for another candidate. So if your local crew decides they want to give their best player a shot at competing, they can give them a greater chance at being selected! Applicants will be selected using a combination of random chance and vote count. Once we have chosen the next set of contenders, we will send out emails to them, as well as several back-ups in the case that a contender cannot compete or simply doesn’t show up on the day of.
