The Best of Star Wars Destiny
Welp hey everyone, didn’t really want to have this come out with the circumstances we are in – really was hoping this would be a more happy thing. Anyway, if I am efficient this should be coming out on the 11th of February which is my 15th birthday and well, I really just wanted to say thanks to you all for the great memories and fun times. I suppose I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start at the beginning.
When I first started it was the summer of 2018 and I remember showing up with a two dice deck, barely managing to get a third (Shout outs to Garret and Bates for the extra Qui-Gon1 dice), and had no idea what was happening. All at once I was thrown into round one and sitting across from me was someone I didn’t know and all I remember thinking was wow that is a nice looking mat, then he tells me he net-decked the world champions list (Kylo/Anakin) and I was playing mono blue. I think we were the first ones done. I think I went 1-3 that night and I never looked back. As soon as Way of the Force dropped I traded for two Snokes and loved that style of ramp. Honestly looking back all my favorite decks had some way if generating resources really quick. I then jumped to fat vehicle ramp in Across the Galaxy, and a little bit of Vader. Then Convergence dropped and well I had a pre-errata Force Storm die that only rolled the special. I then jumped back to Snoke for a little bit until the nerfs. But I think this is where my love for the game really showed itself. R2-D2 got announced and I went nuts saving money to get boxes to get everybody’s favorite character “Beep beep droid member one.” After spark dropped I ran 5 dice chopper at the games dead invitational, got top 4 and played with it on stream – it was a lot of fun and felt really good going into Gen Con. Went 4-4 at Gen Con and had the time of my life. Then worlds happened and I did the thing with the droids and now here we are.
I really wanted to just say thank you to everyone for being nice and always being there. Before I transferred schools things got tough with people and having you guys there helped a lot more than I realized. To be honest the reason I liked destiny so much was because you guys were super nice to each other and it was an escape from the toxic people from my old school.
Now that I have a moment to look back I wanted to just make some countdowns of things from this game. With that being said here are some things I liked in this game
10: Cad Bane – action sheets make me go Y E S
9: Vader – you know the one and you know why
8: Padme – ngl I love characters with more than six dice sides (her focus being indirect making it 9)
7: Old Man Luke – it was actually a really cool blend of offense and defense and the arguments online about ataru strike where really funny
6: Yoda1 – good character this is very fun to play it is
5: Han – old dude because he is cheap and can make cash also got me into day two worlds so yeah no bias here.
4: Palp – because and I quote” UNLIMITED POWER”
3: 3P0 – good character to play with r2 because reasons
2: Snoke – I know he was broken but if I could ever try format where all the erratas were reset I would play Snoke support spam
1: R2 – no surprise here
Top 10 favorite memories
10: Probably just the atmosphere at my first tournament.
9: Taking second at the Wisconsin prime (Shout outs and congratulations to Sam Horner for winning the whole thing)
8: The Source store championship
7: Pods at worlds was a lot of fun; also finishing off the trio of spot glosses for Han, R2 and 3PO felt good
6: Having Spark of Hope be announced and seeing R2 for the first time
5: First ever game of destiny against my dad
4: Going to a local with the original 5 dice chopper and just playing DDO and seeing people give me a look of confusion as I rolled all my stuff in and dealt all the damage
3: Going to Gen Con and the whole experience with it
2: Probably the Ewok Ambush into lethal for the win to get into day two at worlds
1: Alright story time. Post day one of gencon, some of us went to steak and shake for dinner so we order and everyone gets their food except Andrew, who is one of the most tired people among us, and all of a sudden some random salad just appears in front of Andrew and as he goes to take a bite all you hear is Jon yell’ “HEY! That’s my salad!” Andrew with the most defeated look on his face hands over the salad and Jon just goes to town on it. So the table is already laughing because Jon said it so loud; but then Jon – after eating almost the entire thing asks Andrew if he wants some and that Andrew looked really hungry. Anyway I bet a salad that Andrew would win worlds so now I’m broke and one salad in debt to Andrew.
My plan right now is to ride the game out as much as possible but I am also just starting to get into magic the gathering – mainly blue green ramp – so I might start playing competitively. But my biggest advice to keep the game going right now is just allow proxies of CM cards to be used. Some people actually have the cards so everyone else should be able to use them. Also I recommend looking into the 40/40 infinite and 40/40 infinite highlander mainly because strategies that would work in standard might not work in 40/40 like if you always wanted to run rainbow Palp with Lightsaber Mastery and Force Speed and Holocron there you go. Until CM drops just be patient FFG is working on giving us the product.
