As Jon and I continue to explore the possibilities with Way of the Force, I thought I’d revisit a character from Legacies who failed to live up to his legendary status: Fin – Soldier of Necessity. I’ve always felt that his die is extremely strong for his point cost (4 sides with value 2 or higher), but try though I might I could not quite get him over the hump in the Legacies meta. I tried both Finn/Han2 and Finn/Luke2 extensively, and while both decks were good, they were not Tier 1 quality. With a new set and new potential partners, let’s see what we might be able to cook up in the Way of the Force meta.
The most obvious partner is Cassian, who gives you insane value with his dice, as well as providing 2 base sides to help resolve Finn’s +2. I’ve always considered Red/Yellow hero to have a great control suite, and this decklist has me salivating in that regard. Easy Pickings, Defensive Position, Second Chance, and potential Honor Guard / Suppressive Fire recursion? Sign me up!
Also, can I just say how good Rex’s Blaster Pistol is in a quick draw deck? Activating both of these characters and then resolving damage sounds amazing. Running Interference + Ambush weapon has a similar effect with Rex’s Blaster Pistol in the field. This deck could have some serious blow-out plays up it’s sleeve.
Rex also makes a good partner for Finn. He also has 2 base sides for the +2, and his ability has the potential to be nuts, guaranteeing Defensive Position and Dug In are online when you need them, and preventing Arihnda Pryce shenanigans. And while adding yellow is clearly huge, mono-red is better able to take advantage of a few great cards. First Aid becomes a guaranteed blowout turn 1 if you draw it, while Rearm (a severely underrated card, IMO) and Hit and Run are both easier to use in this deck. I’m also excited to try Blaze of Glory as a pseudo Best Defense, keeping both your characters alive for a longer period of the game.
So what do you think? Will either of these decks have what it takes to compete in the Way of the Force meta? I have high hopes for these decks, especially Finn/Cassian, and am excited to take them for a spin in the coming weeks!
